Notice the following passages:

  1. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another” (Ephesians 4:25).  Take note of the reason given for speaking the truth.  We are members of one another.  The members of our physical bodies do not lie to each other.  Each performs their task to produce one living body, not multiple bodies.  For this reason,  God’s people are to be as transparent as possible so that anything that is lacking is given the proper attention.  The same chapter adds in verse fifteen, “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,”  Speaking the truth is the only way to grow into Him who is the head of the body.
  2.  “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices” (Colossians 3:9).  You will notice that in this case, the explanation is given that those in Christ have put off the old self.   That old man has died with its practices — one being the practice of speaking lies.

These are in the context of sharing the truth for the purpose of growth and conforming ourselves to the image of Christ.  This is the responsibility of all spiritually minded people.  Yea, it is the responsibility of every disciple of Christ and is an obligation that we owe our brothers and sisters.
