The Scriptures are the voice of God.  So, if you want to hear God speak, read it.  If you want to hear God speak audibly, read it out loud (Jim Osman, p. 270).  Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the word of God is living, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.  Osman explained, “When God breathed out His word (2 Tim. 3:16-17), He didn’t leave us a mystical. subjective collection of words and phrases that can be massaged into whatever “meaning “best fits our desires. Every student of Scripture should work to discern the Author’s intended meaning in the passage.  The meaning isn’t determined by the reader, but by the Author.”  I couldn’t agree more.  What this means is that we must be diligent in studying to be sure that we do not take texts of Scripture out of context and misrepresent the author.  We hear God’s voice when we read and understand His intended meaning.   Sometimes, we hear the voice of the preacher or some other influential person of our lives who misrepresented God’s voice.  The true voice of God doesn’t leap off a page from my subjective impressions and feelings, but the truth conveyed by the meaning of inspired words.  This is objective truth.
