The Hebrew word “Elohim” (e-lo-HEEM) is used in the context of His creative power and rule of the universe. It is the most commonly used name for God throughout the Old Testament. When an artist creates something, he often leaves his mark so that others will know he made it. An artist signs his painting; a sculptor may carve his initials in the bottom of his statue. Others have trademarks that indicate their work. As the great Creator, God has left his mark on His creation. You can see the mark of the Creator in many places, but God has provided a clear signature on His most precious creation—He has given each human being a soul, breathed into Adam by God. It is that part of us that is eternal—just as He is. We are His special creation, set apart by Him and for Him from that day. How amazing it is that the God who made the whole universe gives us the most valued place in His creation!
