Once the enemy has encompassed the camp of the saints, the siege ends with God sending fire from heaven to devour the enemy. It is possible that this fire obliterates the universe, but it appears that the target is the enemy who encompassed the saints that are obliterated.

The fire from heaven can be interpreted in three ways. The first heaven is the sky where the birds fly (Gen. 1:26; Rev. 8:13). The second is space where the sun, moon, and stars reside ( Gen. 1:14-18). The third is Paradise (2 Corl 12:2-4; Rev. 4:1-2; Isa. 66:1). It’s hard to anticipate fire from heaven in any of these three uses. It could be a nuclear fire that causes the extinction of an entire civilization. When we add the source of the aggression arising from Magog and the nuclear capabilities of world powers that have the capability to launch such mass destruction. The United States has adopted the policy of mutual assured destruction (MAD). Numerous missiles of mass destruction would come down out of heaven (“sky”) and the simultaneous blasts would create fireballs in the sky. The United States and the Soviet Union could each produce a million Hiroshimas of destructive energy. It is truly a doomsday weapon of mass destruction.
